Workplace safety for pregnant women

The American Society of Safety Engineers celebrated Mother’s Day recently by providing solutions to create a safe workplace for pregnant women.

The ASSE suggests workplace design changes to help women whose balance, reach distance and lifting capability change with pregnancy.

• Use material handling equipment to reduce the need to lift, lower, push, pull or carry heavy materials
• Reduce the weight of objects that must be handled
• Keep floor surfaces dry and free of debris
• Provide a workplace with features that can be adjusted to accommodate the needs of pregnant women
• Provide safety/ergonomics training
