Don’t use your cell phone while driving for work!
Cellphone distraction – talking on a cell phone while driving, is unsafe: it causes 2,600 deaths and 330,000 injuries in the U.S. every year.
Some employers encourage workers to use cell phones while they drive to conduct business, but many are now discouraging them from doing it. If they do, they may be able to avoid liability for the accidents their employees cause (like the Florida company that was sued for $21 million when an employee crashed into a car while speaking on his cell phone and severely injured an elderly woman).
Last year, the California Association of Employers recommended employers develop a cell phone policy that requires employees to pull off the road while using cell phones. Companies should establish written policies on cell phone use while driving and provide training to employees who routinely drive on the job.
